11 Killed in a Plane Crash in Kenya, Including tourists from Germany and Hungary
A small plane crashed in Kenya shortly after takeoff on a safari. Every passenger perished. Along with the Kenyan pilot, there were eight Hungarians and two Germans on board.
When a small plane crashed while travelling to a natural reserve on Kenya’s east coast, all eleven passengers—including two German and eight Hungarian tourists—were killed. According to Mombasa Air Safari, the Kenyan pilot also passed away.
The German Foreign Office said it was aware of the matter in answer to a question from the dpa news agency. The local authorities and the German Embassy in Nairobi maintain close communication. It stated that the situation is unclear.
A representative of the regional government in the Kwale region on the Indian Ocean had previously spoken of twelve people on board.
According to reports, the Cessna crashed shortly after takeoff about 40 kilometers outside the coastal city of Mombasa on its way to the Masai Mara nature reserve.
The plane burst into flames and burned completely. Local media published photos and videos showing the wreckage in the middle of a dense forest. Rescuers and soldiers can be seen securing items.
The cause of the accident is unclear, the Kenyan aviation authority said, adding that an investigation has been launched.
The Masai Mara National Reserve is a popular tourist destination in the region.
Every year, the migration of wildebeest herds from the Serengeti in Tanzania can be observed there.
