Mikel Oyarzabal has become Spain’s key goal scorer in the FIFA World Cup 2026.
For Spain, Mikel Oyarzabal scored once more. This time, Lamine Yamal had opened the score against Saudi Arabia in the second game of the 2026 World Cup.
Following a 0-0 draw against Cape Verde, the Real Sociedad striker scored twice in three minutes to end Spain’s goal drought in the season’s opening encounter. Days before the World Cup began, La Dazoneta made a prediction about Oyarzabal that went viral.
Mikel Oyarzabal has emerged as a key member of the Spanish national squad as a result of his on-field performances. The Real Sociedad attacker is a fixture in Luis de la Fuente’s squads and a clear starter.
Before coming to the United States to compete in the World Cup, he scored in Spain’s 3-1 victory over Peru in a friendly warmup match, bringing his total to 12 goals and six assists in 11 games.
The Real Sociedad striker came to the World Cup as one of the tournament’s leading scorers, but it wasn’t until the second game that he was spotted celebrating with his national squad.
In the days leading up to the World Cup, he was also the focus of La Dazoneta, where his importance and place in the history of the national team were discussed. His role in the tournament was also predicted.
Emiliano Raggi posed the first question when Mikel Oyarzabal’s name came up among the candidates to be one of the top scorers of the World Cup: “Is Oyarzabal going to score more goals than Kane, Olise, Haaland, Mbappé, Julián, Lautaro, Vinicius?”
“He’s a very good player, I don’t know if he’ll be the top scorer of the World Cup with that kind of determination,” the Argentine added. Héctor Gallusa, the program’s host, asserted that he could be one of the candidates: “Coming in the form he’s been in lately and playing for the national team, he’s averaging a goal per game or more…”
There was also time for laughter. “Oyarzabal, 25 million according to Transfermarkt. If he played in Brazil, Oyarzabalinho would be worth 100 million, and if he were Mike Oyarkane he’d be worth 150 million,” Nacho Hernáez quipped.
