Mexican actor Alejandro Landero receives support from his community after becoming homeless in Mexico City.
Alejandro Landero, a Mexican soap opera actor, is homeless with his pets after losing his home. Residents of Mexico City’s Roma and Condesa neighbourhoods have taken to social media to offer their support and assist him in locating temporary housing.
The initiative was launched thanks to Verónica Hernández, a local resident, who shared a video asking for help for Landero, who had been sleeping outdoors for three days with his four cats—which he keeps in carriers for protection—and a dog.
“I sincerely ask for your support so that someone can help our neighbour, who is homeless. (His pets) are very calm. I don’t know if someone could please help him for a month at most so he can have a roof over his head,” she explains in the recording.
Within a few hours, the public response made it possible to secure a makeshift space for him to spend the night, although during the day he remains on Mazatlán Avenue, in front of the Condesa buildings.
“I’m going through a difficult time, a tough trial, but God always shows you the way and puts the right people in your life. Today is proof of that. I want to thank you for the invaluable help you’re giving me,” the actor said in a video released later.
According to Landero, his goal is to rebuild his life and settle in Puerto Vallarta, where he hopes to work in the hotel industry and promote inclusion policies for neurodivergent people , including those living with autism or ADHD, conditions with which he has been diagnosed.
For now, donations and any assistance are still being accepted, as the actor has not yet found a permanent place to stay.
According to the latest Population and Housing Census published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), published in 2020, 5,778 people were counted as homeless in Mexico.
Of every 100 people in this situation, 87 are men and 13 are women, and the majority are between 30 and 59 years old. Mexico City is the state with the highest prevalence of this problem.
In recent years, rising rental prices in central areas of the capital have exacerbated the difficulties in accessing decent housing.
Figures from the Mexico City General Territorial Planning Program 2020–2035 project indicate that more than 20,000 families are displaced each year due to a lack of affordable housing options.
Most end up moving to the outskirts and, in some cases, face precarious housing conditions.
Who is Alejandro Landero?
Alejandro Landero’s acting career began in 1982 with a supporting role in the soap opera Bianca Vidal.
His most memorable performance was as Rigoberto Camacho in Rosa Salvaje , a production in which he co-starred with Verónica Castro, Guillermo Capetillo, Laura Zapata, and Edith González.
After that project, he participated in various television productions until 1993, the year he decided to retire from the screen. Since then, although he remained outside the artistic world, local media have reported that he continued working as a teacher and starting small businesses.
