New Bluey $1 Christmas coins from the Royal Australian Mint are selling for 4x their price! 11 The limited-edition 2025 Bluey & Bingo coins have sparked a frenzy.
Australia is once again gripped by coin-collecting mania as the Royal Australian Mint (RAM) releases its highly anticipated 2025 Bluey Christmas $1 coins.
Following the unprecedented success of last year’s ‘Dollarbucks’ collection, the new limited-edition coins, featuring Bluey and her sister Bingo in festive Australian summer scenes, have sent demand soaring, with some coins reportedly being listed online for more than four times their official price before they even hit the counter.
The new Christmas collection features two coloured $1 coins, both presented in commemorative hanging ornaments, making them a dual gift for coin collectors and Christmas tree decorators.
The Frenzy Begins
The release is a collaboration between the Royal Australian Mint and BBC Studios, celebrating the beloved, globally successful animated series.
The 2024 ‘Bluey Dollarbucks‘ series saw queues forming around the block at the Mint and sold-out online channels.
This year’s launch has been just as chaotic. The Mint opened an online EQL ballot this week to manage the overwhelming demand for the limited-mintage items, which include:
- The 2025 $1 Coloured Uncirculated Coin: Featuring Bluey and Bingo wearing paper crowns in a classic Aussie Christmas setting.
- The 2025 $1 Coloured Fine Silver Proof Coin: A premium, low-mintage version presented in a special bauble.
A representative from the Royal Australian Mint noted that the initial release has been met with extraordinary enthusiasm, with staff fielding a high volume of calls and the online ballot seeing massive entry numbers.
Resale Market Explodes
The true indicator of the coins’ popularity is the immediate spike in the secondary market. Early listings for the festive collectables have appeared on online auction sites at significantly inflated prices, with one set reportedly fetching a price quadrupling its original value.
“The huge success of last year’s release really set the tone,” a RAM spokesperson said. “Bluey connects with Australians of all ages, and releasing them at Christmas just adds that extra layer of excitement.”
How to get your hands on a ‘Dollarbuck’
While the online ballot is a primary purchasing channel, collectors can also try their luck from Thursday, October 16th, by purchasing through the Mint Shop in Deakin, via the Mint Contact Centre, or through participating authorised coin distributors.
Given the rush, experts advise collectors to act fast.
