The former Big Brother contestant Selvaggia Roma reflects on the heartache of losing her first child.
Selvaggia Roma shares her poignant experience surrounding the issue of abortion. A guest on Verissimo, the former contestant from Big Brother reflects on the harrowing months during which she learnt that the baby she was expecting was impacted by Cytomegalo virus, a virus that poses a grave threat to the foetus. “In the fifth month, we learnt from a routine ultrasound that her heart had ceased to beat.” “It was dreadful,” Selvaggia recounts, having welcomed her second daughter, Luce, with professional footballer Luca Teti today.
The miscarriage took place three years ago. Selvaggia learns of her pregnancy and celebrates: the baby is deeply desired. Then her world comes crashing down: after undergoing a series of tests, it is revealed that she has contracted the virus. “It manifested in me much like the flu, but for the foetus, it proved to be fatal,” she remarks. “However, I was determined to persevere with the pregnancy, holding onto the hope that the baby had not been affected.” After a period of time, additional examinations revealed: “The results suggest that my daughter might have contracted the virus and potentially survived it. However, there would have been a significant consequence: the virus would likely have presented itself within the first three years of her life, had she been born, leading to lasting issues, including blindness.”
Then, in the fifth month, the sorrowful conclusion. “I underwent the amniocentesis and found out that the baby had contracted the virus.” They had to induce me. I endured 17 hours of labour. It was absolutely dreadful. My body simply would not comply, as it felt entirely unnatural. It appeared as though it would stretch on indefinitely. My partner and I have chosen to name her Mia. It felt to us as though she had just come into the world.
Following this story, Silvia Toffanin presents a video message from her partner, Luca. The latter states that, despite the anguish, he and Selvaggia chose to gaze upon the baby on that occasion. We observed her; they presented her to us in a cot.’ Then they whisked her away from our midst. This narrative has significantly bolstered our connection. Then our vibrant ray of hope, Luce, arrived. The video message concludes with a rather bold marriage proposal: “I would like her as a wife soon, and I hope she will not be the first or the last girl, because now I want a boy.”
