“Claudia Sheinbaum has a safe place for my imprisonment,” El Chapo Guzmán asserts in his new letter.

Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán has written to the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, expressing his dissatisfaction with his treatment in the United States.

Arturo Ángel, a journalist, uploaded the letter, postmarked June 23, on social media.

“Claudia Sheinbaum has a safe place for my incarceration, where my health is being taken care of, since the United States is treating me unequally in the penitentiary,” is written in the paper.

The letter argues that foreign policy norms have not been violated by the man who once led the Sinaloa Cartel. With this latest document, El Chapo is once again seeking release from the U.S. prison system and extradition to Mexican authorities.

“The federal courts have the power, under Judicial Policies, to accept Mr. Guzmán’s request, in accordance with the foreign policy norms of the United States, to ensure him fair treatment ,” the letter continues.

In the text, El Chapos claims that he is treated unequally in the United States and that this violates the law of that country, as he points out.

The receipt document bears the Brooklyn Office stamp dated June 23rd; furthermore, the letter is signed as Joaquín “El Chapo” Loera Guzmán , that is, with the order of the drug lord’s surnames interleaved.

On several occasions, El Chapo has written letters seeking to be brought back to Mexico. Just last June 18, Guzmán Loera reiterated his request to the Eastern District Court of New York that his appeal against his sentence be heard and his extradition to Mexico be carried out. The letter, also shared by journalist Arturo Ángel , was received by the court’s Pro Se Office, indicating that the request was submitted personally and without direct legal representation.

In the document, the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel expressed concern about his “U.S. citizenship status” and noted that he had faced numerous difficulties dealing with the laws related to his conviction. He asked the judge to consider the application of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights in his appeal process, arguing that his federal trial lacked sufficient evidence and that the verdict was erroneous.

“This is a letter of concern, requesting that the court utilise the Powers Constitution in my impending legal appeal. “I also invoke the Bill of Rights because my sentence was violated in federal court due to a lack of evidence, resulting in an erroneous judicial verdict,” the document states.

In 2019, US authorities convicted Guzmán Loera to life in prison plus 30 years. He has been serving his term at the ADX Florence supermax prison in Colorado, also known as the “Alcatraz of the Rockies,” which holds high-profile convicts in strict isolation.

In addition to the appeal, the drug trafficker claimed that the extradition policy is a legal right and urged the District Court to consider his deportation from the United States to return to Mexico.

“The request regarding the extradition policy is a legal right, as I have filed a removal request in the District Courts.” I appreciate the judge for upholding the law and considering my plea to return to Mexico to achieve my freedom,” the statement finishes before the drug trafficker’s signature.
