The earthquake occurred at 12.59 p.m. and had a depth of 8.46 km.
In a message issued on AFAD’s social media account reporting the 5.4 magnitude earthquake that happened in Simav, the following was noted:
“There are currently no adverse events following the 5.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Simav district of Kütahya province at 12:59 p.m. and was also felt in the provinces of Uşak, Balıkesir, Bursa, and Bilecik. Field surveys are ongoing. We offer our best wishes to all affected citizens.”
Interior Minister of Turkiye Ali Yerlikaya also made a statement on social media, saying, “A 5.4 magnitude earthquake occurred in Simav, Kütahya. All teams from AFAD and our relevant institutions have begun field surveys regarding the earthquake, which was also felt in surrounding provinces. I offer my best wishes to our citizens affected by the earthquake. May God protect our country and our nation from disasters.”
Governor Musa Işın joined the TRT News live broadcast by phone and evaluated the latest situation regarding the earthquake.
Işın, noting that only a short time had passed since the earthquake and that teams had begun field surveys, said, “We have not received any negative findings during our field surveys so far. Our investigations are ongoing. We are in contact with our gendarmerie and neighborhood representatives.”
Governor Işın said that it would not be right to say anything too early and noted:
“It’s not right to say anything too early, but we haven’t received any negative reports yet. A magnitude of 5.4 is a significant figure, especially when evaluated on a rural and village-by-village basis. We hope there will be no damage or loss of life or property. Our teams are continuing their investigations.”
Governor Işın reminded that the largest earthquake in the region had a magnitude of 4.6, adding that Simav had experienced a magnitude of 5.9 in previous years, but that earthquake had not caused any loss of life.
