The critical incident video package stems from a July 5 morning pursuit that began following a violent domestic abuse report in Rancho Cordova and culminated in a fatal shootout near Citrus Heights.
A Brutal Domestic Assault and Morning Pursuit
According to investigative details and footage outlined by law enforcement, deputies initially responded to the 2200 block of Zinfandel Drive in Rancho Cordova following urgent calls regarding a bloodied woman screaming for assistance.
When deputies made contact with the victim, she reported that she had endured three days of continuous, brutal beatings, pistol-whipping, and strangulation at the hands of her ex-husband. The victim recounted that she only managed to escape after playing dead until the suspect temporarily left the room, allowing her to slip away and alert neighbours.
While deputies responded to the scene, the suspect fled in the victim’s vehicle. Officers tracked the vehicle down later that morning near Fair Oaks Boulevard and Kenneth Avenue. When law enforcement attempted to execute a standard traffic stop, the driver refused to yield, triggering a high-speed pursuit that carried units onto eastbound Interstate 80.

The newly released footage captures the tense pursuit weaving through traffic before coming to a violent halt on eastbound I-80, just west of the Antelope Road exit.
According to the sheriff’s office, the fleeing vehicle was successfully contained, but the situation escalated instantly when the suspect pointed a firearm at deputies. Five separate deputies discharged their weapons at the scene, striking the driver.
Emergency medical measures were administered, but the suspect succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A firearm was recovered from the vehicle. No law enforcement personnel or bystanders were physically injured during the shootout.
