Early Saturday morning, police apprehended a fresh suspect in connection with the death of a 47-year-old Berghem man. A 33-year-old guy detained earlier on Friday in Berghem is no longer considered a suspect.
Passers-by discovered the body in a ditch in a rural region near Berghem and Herpen early Friday afternoon. He most likely died as the consequence of a crime. The latest suspect is a 35-year-old guy from Oss. He is now in prison and will be questioned later.
Police investigations show that the 33-year-old Berghem man arrested earlier had nothing to do with the killing, according to police reports Saturday morning. “We are receiving indications that a photo of this man is circulating and strongly urge people not to distribute it.”
The police are examining what happened to the victim and the circumstances surrounding it.
The victim was a youth leader for the football team VV Berghem Sport. All home matches on Saturday have been cancelled in light of the loss. “This event deeply affects our club and could have a major impact on our members,” the group warns on its website.
