The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised charges against former BBC Radio 1 and Capital Xtra DJ Tim Westwood, 68, following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service into a series of non-recent sexual abuse allegations.
Westwood, a prominent figure in the UK’s hip-hop scene for decades, faces a total of 15 charges relating to seven different women.
The alleged offences are reported to have occurred over a significant period, spanning more than three decades, between 1983 and 2016.
The Full List of Charges
The charges brought against Mr Westwood are:
- Four counts of Rape
- Nine counts of Indecent Assault
- Two counts of Sexual Assault
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the charges relate to seven women, with the alleged offences taking place across various locations, including London and Gloucestershire.
The women involved were as young as 17 at the time of the alleged incidents.
Initial Court Appearance
The former DJ, whose birth name is Timothy Westwood, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
Background to the Investigation
The police investigation began after a joint media investigation by the BBC and The Guardian in April 2022 publicly aired the accounts of several women accusing Westwood of sexual misconduct and predatory behaviour.
The allegations prompted a wider response, including an internal review by the BBC into what the corporation knew about his conduct during his nearly 20-year tenure there.
In a statement, the Metropolitan Police commended the victims for their bravery, noting, “It takes courage to come forward and report allegations of this nature.1
The women who have done so have put their trust in us and we continue to provide them with all available support.”
Mr. Westwood has previously “strongly” denied all allegations of inappropriate behaviour and wrongdoing since they were first made public.
The CPS has emphasized that criminal proceedings are now active and the defendant has the right to a fair trial.
