Turkish Singer Güllü Dies at 51

Güllü (51), a respected personality in Arabesque music, has died. Güllü, the famed singer’s son, announced his mother’s death in a message posted to social media. Güllü’s funeral will take place tomorrow (September 26) in the Tuzla Sultan 1st Ahmet Mosque, after the funeral prayer.

Famous singer Güllü died after falling from the balcony of her home in Çınarcık, Yalova. Her son, Tuğberk Gülter, released the following statement on social media :

I’m publishing this message to share some sad news. We lost my mother, the esteemed artist Güllü, in a tragic accident tonight. Suicide rumours circulating on social media are false. I will share updates on the funeral. My condolences.

In a statement made by the Yalova Governorship, it was stated that officers went to the address after a report of a “fall from a height” on Vali Akı Street in the Harmanlar Neighbourhood was sent to the 112 Emergency Call Centre and an investigation was launched.

Upon arrival at the address, it was determined that Gül Tut, known as the artist ‘Güllü’, had fallen from a window while having fun with her daughter and her daughter’s friend. Upon examination by medical personnel, it was determined that the individual had died. In accordance with instructions received from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, an investigation into the ‘fall from a height’ incident was launched by the Çınarcık District Police Department.

Who was Gullu?
Gül Tut, born on October 15, 1973, in the Kasımpaşa neighborhood of Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district. The artist, who entered the stage scene at a young age, attracted attention with her debut album, released in 1994, and made a significant splash with her song “Toy Like”. Subsequent singles like “İncitme Beni” (Don’t Incite Beni) and “Sevdalim” (I Love It) left a lasting mark on the music world .

With her powerful voice and stage presence, she became one of the most popular arabesque-fantasy artists of the ’90s. Her albums often explored themes of love, separation, and longing. She performed for many years, also appearing on television programmes, and gained a large audience.

She has two children.
