Tom Holland was hospitalised after suffering a concussion on the set of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”
The highly anticipated production of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has been temporarily suspended after star Tom Holland was hospitalized with a concussion following a stunt gone wrong.
The 29-year-old actor was injured on Friday at Leavesden Studios in Watford, sparking a rapid response from emergency services and immediate concern from fans around the globe.
Sources close to the production confirmed that Holland suffered a mild concussion after a fall and was taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.
While he was treated and later released, the incident has cast a shadow over the filming of one of the year’s biggest blockbusters and renewed the debate around actor safety on set.
The Incident and its Aftermath
According to initial reports from The Sun, the incident occurred during a stunt sequence that involved Holland and a stunt double. While the exact details of the fall are unclear, a representative for the East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that an ambulance was dispatched to the studio to transport a patient to the hospital for further care. A woman, believed to be the stunt double, was also taken to the hospital.
Following the accident, filming for the fourth installment in the Spider-Man franchise was immediately halted. Producers at Sony and Marvel Studios are reportedly meeting to reassess the production schedule and determine how to proceed without their leading man.
The news sent a wave of concern through social media, with fans and fellow actors wishing Holland a speedy recovery. While a viral image claiming to show Holland injured has been circulating online, its authenticity has not been confirmed.
A Star’s Dedication and a History of ‘Sick Note’
Tom Holland has long been known for his dedication to performing his own stunts, a trait he shares with other action stars like Tom Cruise. This hands-on approach has earned him a reputation for authenticity but has also led to a string of minor injuries throughout his career.
He has previously spoken about his frequent injuries while performing in the West End production of Billy Elliot, where he earned the nickname “Sick Note.”
Just a few months ago, Holland had expressed his excitement about filming on location for the new Spider-Man movie, a departure from the previous installment, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was shot almost entirely on soundstages due to the pandemic. The desire to bring more practical effects to the film seems to have come at a personal cost.
While the injury is a setback, a source for Deadline stated that Holland is expected to take a “precautionary” break and will return to the set in a few days. The incident, however, underscores the immense pressure on actors to perform their own stunts and the inherent risks that come with making massive action films.
