Built in 1986 and rebuilt in 2024, the superyacht, which was available for rent for 80,000 euros a week excluding fees during peak season, caught fire on Thursday evening.
A 41-meter luxury yacht was on fire Thursday evening in the port of Saint-Tropez (Var), we learnt from the firefighters who set up anti-pollution barriers.
The fire broke out for an unknown reason shortly after 8:15 p.m. on the superyacht Sea Lady II, moored in the old port of this upscale resort on the French Riviera, very popular with the international jet set.
Shortly before 10 p.m., the fire was “still not extinguished,” a spokesperson for the Var fire department told AFP, reporting “difficulties in boarding the ship.”
According to images posted on social media, the fire was releasing thick black smoke into the sky above Saint-Tropez, where many onlookers were filming the scene along the quayside.
“The surrounding yachts were quickly cleared and we put up anti-pollution barriers ,” the fire department spokesperson said, deeming it “likely that the boat would sink in the port . “
Around thirty firefighters, assisted by four engines, were deployed to fight the blaze. Two men reported to the emergency services complaining of smoke inhalation, although it was not immediately clear whether they were passengers on the yacht.
The Sea Lady II is a 41.2-meter superyacht flying the Maltese flag. Built in 1986 and refurbished in 2024, it is available for charter at €80,000 per week, excluding fees, during peak season.
In addition to its eight crew members, it can accommodate up to ten passengers in its five cabins, all equipped with private bathrooms, according to the yacht charter website Charterindex.
