Famous German Radio and TV Presenter Frank Laufenberg Dies At 80

The former SWF3 co-founder, music encyclopaedia author, and ARD presenter Frank Laufenberg died at the age of 80.

Frank Laufenberg, the legendary radio and television presenter for many listeners and viewers, has died. The music expert and author died after a short, serious illness at the age of 80 in the company of his immediate family, as Saarländischer Rundfunk (SR) and his son Thore Laufenberg told the German Press Agency.

As SR presenter Christian Job reported, Frank Laufenberg came to radio over half a century ago. He was one of the founding fathers of the then pop station SWF3 in Baden-Baden. As a music expert, Laufenberg provided generations of pop fans with his reference works, such as the “Hit Lexicon of Rock and Pop.”

On television, Laufenberg hosted live shows such as “Ohne Filter” on ARD, “Frank & Frei” on Sat.1, and the “WWF Club” on WDR. SR author Job added, “Until recently, Frank Laufenberg produced and hosted programs for his own internet radio station, ‘PopStop,’ and ‘Zwei bei Frank—die kleinen Radiosendung der Welt’ (Two with Frank—the smallest radio show in the world) for Saarländischer Rundfunk.” Laufenberg ran the radio station “PopStop” in Laufeld in the Vulkaneifel region.
