Just two days after her impressive victory over Belgian Élise Mertens, ranked 22nd, in her inaugural major draw at Roland-Garros, 22-year-old Loïs Boisson, currently positioned at 361st in the world, breezed through her second-round match against Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, who is ranked 113th, with a commanding score of 6-1, 6-2 this Thursday. Having received an invitation, she is set to face either her fellow countrywoman Elsa Jacquemot, currently ranked 138th, or the American Alycia Parks, who holds the 52nd position, in a bid for a spot in the round of 16.

She remains utterly elated. Just two days after her impressive victory over Belgium’s Élise Mertens, ranked 22nd, in her inaugural major draw at Roland Garros, 22-year-old Loïs Boisson, currently positioned at 361st in the world, triumphed over Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, aged 28 and ranked 113th, this Thursday in the second round with a score of 6-1, 6-2. This remarkable performance propels her into the third round, where she is set to compete against either her fellow countrywoman Elsa Jacquemot, ranked 138th, or American Alycia Parks, who holds the 52nd spot.

It remains uncertain if the Frenchwoman harbours any resentment, yet she did recall that the Ukrainian had triumphed over her in the second round of qualifying for Roland-Garros 2021, marking the Dijon native’s inaugural appearance at Porte d’Auteuil.

In any event, she delivered a thorough tennis performance to bring the score back in line for the spectators on Court 7.

From the outset, Boisson demonstrated her command of the situation. She surged ahead with remarkable speed, establishing a 3-0 lead while executing flawless tennis. Kalinina made the rather ill-advised decision to challenge her opponent fiercely, yet her shots continued to return with increasing speed.

When the Ukrainian seized control of the exchanges, Boisson showcased his defensive prowess, particularly with a remarkably effective backhand slice that effectively neutralised his opponent’s attacks.

With unwavering concentration, Boisson remained steadfastly aligned with the central theme of her match. She maintained a stoic demeanour on the court, yet a jubilant scream escaped her lips at match point, revealing her sheer delight. Having demonstrated such exceptional skill, both on the court and in her emotional resilience, she had undoubtedly earned the privilege to express herself fully.
