Cambridge scientists find ‘strongest evidence yet’ of life on K2-18B

Scientists have discovered new but tentative evidence that a distant planet orbiting another star may be home to life.

A Cambridge team examining the atmosphere of a planet named K2-18b discovered compounds that are only created by primitive creatures here on Earth.

K2-18b is two and a half times the size of Earth and 700 trillion miles away from us.

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) of NASA has found compounds linked with life in the planet’s atmosphere for the second time, which is more encouraging.

However, the researchers and other astronomers emphasise that additional data are required to corroborate these findings.
