His death comes just as he was preparing for a headline performance at the “Music on Main” event in Moncks Corner, which has since been cancelled in his honour.

The Colleton County Coroner’s Office released the findings of their preliminary investigation on Monday, clarifying the tragic circumstances of the crash.

According to the report, Carter died from blunt force trauma sustained during the collision. The death has been officially ruled an accident.

Law enforcement officials stated that the incident occurred around 11:42 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. Carter was driving a 2026 Tesla sedan southbound on U.S. Route 21 (Lowcountry Highway) when the vehicle veered off the road for unknown reasons. The car struck a utility pole and a fence before rolling several times.

“Despite wearing his seatbelt and the deployment of advanced safety systems, the sheer force of the impact was unsurvivable,” a spokesperson for the South Carolina Highway Patrol noted. Carter was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

A Four-Chair Legacy: From St George to the National Stage

Dylan Carter first rose to national prominence in 2023 with a hauntingly beautiful audition on The Voice. His rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Look to You”—a tribute to his late mother—famously earned him a rare four-chair turn from judges Reba McEntire, John Legend, Gwen Stefani, and Niall Horan.
