A week-long hunt that began with the abandonment of a newborn has resulted in the arrest of Austin Drummond, the 28-year-old suspect in the homicides in Tennessee, USA.
Austin Drummond, the 28-year-old suspected of killing four people and leaving a baby in Tennessee, was apprehended Tuesday, after a weeklong search that had the state on edge.
“Fugitive Austin Drummond is now in law enforcement custody, after having been caught in Jackson,” the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced in a Facebook post early Tuesday. “We’ll provide more details soon, but a hearty thanks to the public for staying vigilant these past few days.”
The statement featured a photo of a clean-shaven Drummond in a forested location shortly after he was apprehended, according to the agency’s X post.
A second photo issued by the Jackson Police Department shows Drummond with his hands behind his back and being restrained by two officers.
An hour earlier, police said he was sighted in a Jackson, Tenn., residential neighbourhood, and they advised homeowners to stay in place with their doors and windows shut.
Drummond was wanted for the killings of James Matthew Wilson, 21, Adriana Williams, 20, Cortney Rose, 38, and Braydon Williams, 15.
The hunt for Drummond began on 29 July, when police reported finding an infant in a car seat in “a random individual’s front yard” in Dyer County near Tigrett.
A witness stated that a car dropped off the youngster in the person’s front garden.
Authorities were able to identify the newborn, and police originally attempted to talk with Wilson and Williams, the infant’s parents, and Rose, the kid’s maternal grandmother.
Their remains, along with Braydon Williams’, were discovered on the same day along a road near Tiptonville, Lake County. The causes of death have not been divulged.
On August 2, officials reported the arrests of two individuals described as Drummond’s “associates” Tanaka Brown and Giovontie Thomas, both 29, who were accused of assisting the fugitive following the deaths.
Brown was also accused of tampering with evidence. Two days later, the FBI revealed that Dearrah Sanders, 23, was also arrested on a charge of accessory after the fact for allegedly assisting Drummond following the killings.
On Monday, officials revealed security video of Drummond in Jackson the night before. He was seen strolling in camouflage and with a gun in the video.
Local, state, and federal officials offered a reward of $32,500 for information leading to Drummond’s arrest.
Authorities have yet to reveal the motivation behind the murders.
Drummond had “a familial relationship” with the victims, according to TBI Director David B. Rausch. The inquiry is underway.
