In light of the fact that the perpetrator(s) remain at large, residents in the vicinity are urged to remain indoors and refrain from accepting rides from hitch-hikers.

Reports indicate that a homicide took place at a residential property in Weitefeld, located in the Altenkirchen district, during the early hours of Sunday morning. Following a request for information from SWR, the police have verified that three individuals have lost their lives. There were two males and one female. The precise identities of the victims remain undisclosed at this time.

A substantial police presence is currently on the scene, featuring a contingent of special forces (SEK) and the deployment of a police helicopter. A police spokesperson has stated that officers are currently in pursuit of an individual who absconded upon the arrival of law enforcement.

The police have entirely sealed off the village. The spokesperson informed SWR that the access roads are currently under surveillance.

Media representatives are being kept at a distance from the crime scene, with instructions to report to a designated police contact point instead.

The police have made it clear that there is no immediate threat; however, as a precautionary measure, residents of Weitefeld and its vicinity are advised to remain indoors and refrain from picking up hitch-hikers.

A representative informed SWR that the police were alerted at approximately 3:45 a.m. – potentially by one of the individuals affected. He further noted that there exists some evidence indicating the crime may have been perpetrated within a familial setting.

Roughly 2,200 individuals reside in Weitefeld. The village is part of the Daaden-Herdorf collective municipality, nestled within the picturesque Westerwald region.
