Netflix has officially confirmed that The Inbetweeners 3 is in production, with Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison, and Joe Thomas returning.
After twelve years of fan petitions, false rumours, and repeated denials from its stars, Britain’s most gloriously cringeworthy quartet is officially getting back together. Netflix has announced that The Inbetweeners 3 is officially in production in the UK, bringing back the original core cast for a brand-new feature film.
Series creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris are returning to both write and direct the project, shifting the cultural phenomenon from its historic E4 and theatrical roots onto the global streaming platform.
The Original Four Reunite in the Yellow Fiat
Netflix dropped a surprise teaser trailer confirming that Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison, and Joe Thomas will all reprise their iconic roles as Will McKenzie, Jay Cartwright, Neil Sutherland, and Simon Cooper.
The teaser footage features the four actors stepping back into Simon’s battered, mismatch-coloured yellow Fiat Cinquecento, complete with its infamous tape deck and replacement door, signalling that while the characters may be older, their capacity for utter humiliation remains entirely intact.
For years, the prospect of a third film looked dead in the water. Cast members previously expressed hesitation, with James Buckley famously stating that “there isn’t enough money in the world” to risk ruining the legacy of the original run, and Simon Bird pouring cold water on reunion rumours. However, a landmark rights agreement signed late last year between Fudge Park Productions and Banijay UK successfully unlocked the path for the characters’ return.
Creators Promise Classic Humour for “Humans”
Details regarding the plot of The Inbetweeners 3 are currently being kept tightly under wraps. However, creators Beesley and Morris promised fans that the new instalment will stay true to the painfully funny, deeply flawed spirit of the original sitcom and its two blockbuster theatrical films.
“It’s been super-fun hanging out with our friends again, and we’re going to work hard every week to ensure there are no problemos making this new film for humans,” Beesley and Morris said in a joint statement.
While supporting fan favourites, such as former teacher Mr Gilbert (Greg Davies), have not yet been officially confirmed to return, production insiders hint that casting announcements for secondary characters will roll out as filming progresses.
With production officially underway, The Inbetweeners 3 is slated to premiere on Netflix, setting up what promises to be a massive nostalgic event for a generation raised on the trials of adolescent awkwardness, briefcase jokes, and unfortunate theme park mishaps.
