Mexican Independence Day: A Unique Presidential Sash for Claudia Sheinbaum

1 min read

Sheinbaum will attend the national ceremonies wearing a traditional dress produced by women in the Mexican Army.

Claudia Sheinbaum is putting on her nicest outfit for her first Grito de Independencia (Cry of Independence). The occasion is clear: this is the first patriotic gathering organised by a president and freshly appointed head of the country’s Armed Forces.

On the evening of September 15, the president will lead one of Mexico’s most important ceremonies, marking the 215th anniversary of Miguel Hidalgo’s armed insurrection, which sparked the independence movement that ended in 1821.

The president will wear a presidential sash created just for her by the General Directorate of Clothing and Equipment Factories of the Secretariat of National Defence (Sedena).

The design of this official insignia was centred on fabric selection, a hand-embroidered national symbol, and finishing that adhered to national etiquette.
