Adam Sandler is set to make his much-anticipated return to the golf course with a sequel to his beloved 1996 cult classic. Netflix has unveiled the trailer for Happy Gilmore 2, officially confirming that the eagerly awaited comedy is set to debut on July 25, 2025.

Sandler’s Comeback on the Golf Course

Netflix is maintaining a discreet silence regarding the storyline, offering merely a tantalising logline: “Happy Gilmore is back!” Nonetheless, the trailer provides a sneak peek of Sandler’s cherished character wrestling with self-doubt before he finds his footing and unleashes his trademark chaos on the golf course. Viewers are in for a delightful blend of nostalgia and innovative humour as Happy takes on the formidable PGA titans in what promises to be an exhilarating and unpredictable contest.

A Glittering Ensemble Takes Part in the Merriment

Alongside Sandler, the sequel to Happy Gilmore sees the return of beloved characters, with Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, and Ben Stiller stepping back into their iconic roles. The film further welcomes a fresh ensemble, featuring music sensation Bad Bunny, NFL standout Travis Kelce, alongside Sandler’s daughters, Sadie and Sunny. Real-life golf icons like John Daly, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Bryson DeChambeau grace the screen, infusing the film with a sense of authenticity and thrill.

Sandler’s Labour of Love

The follow-up has been in the works for quite some time, with Sandler alluding to its progress during a guest spot on The Tonight Show. “We put considerable effort into the script.” “We were determined not to disappoint anyone,” Sandler remarked. “For quite some time now, people have been inquiring.” We worked tirelessly on our writing.

NFL superstar Travis Kelce, who has been carving out a niche in Hollywood with appearances in Ryan Murphy’s Grotesquerie and the forthcoming Loose Cannons, has also conveyed his excitement about being part of the project. “He brought it up, so we’ve got a rather pleasant surprise for Travis,” Sandler quipped. “He is going to come by.” He’s quite a pleasant chap. You would find him quite charming in person. He’s quite amusing, rather charming, and undeniably impressive.

The Talented Ensemble Responsible for the Follow-Up

Kyle Newacheck, recognised for his contributions to Netflix’s Murder Mystery, is at the helm of directing Happy Gilmore 2. Sandler collaborated with Tim Herlihy on the script, the same individual who co-wrote the original film back in 1996. Director Dennis Dugan, known for his work on Happy Gilmore, is back in the role of executive producer.

With a delightful mix of nostalgic references and vibrant comedic flair, Happy Gilmore 2 is poised to become one of the most eagerly awaited comedies of 2025.
