The Sweden Democrats, a right-wing populist party that supports the minority government, are also in favor of the proposed plans.
The government’s statement highlights a forthcoming report on suitable gun legislation, expected to be finalized in 2024. This report indicates existing gaps in the evaluation process for gun ownership permits, among other issues.
The closure of these is now imminent. Restrictions will also be placed on access to specific semi-automatic weapons. The government statement asserts, “Certain types of weapons are so perilous that civilian ownership should only occur in exceptional circumstances.” The semi-automatic AR-15 rifle is cited as a notable instance of a firearm that accommodates large military magazines and has the potential to inflict significant harm rapidly.

A 35-year-old man from Sweden, believed to be the suspect, reportedly shot himself at the location of the incident. The reasons behind his act of murder remain shrouded in mystery. At the age of 20, he obtained a gun license that permitted him to possess four long guns, specifically rifles. It is reported that these were utilized in the commission of the crime. Next to his body, authorities discovered three weapons, empty cartridge cases, and a significant quantity of unused ammunition.
The specifics regarding the types of weapons employed remain uncertain. Authorities have yet to disclose any information. Nonetheless, based on reliable media sources, it appears that at least a portion of these were semi-automatic firearms. A report from “Svenska Dagbladet” reveals, referencing a source familiar with the situation, that the individual in question had access to at least one semi-automatic rifle. The firearm in question is identified as the Browning BAR Long Track model, chambered in caliber .30-06. This designation has earned it the nickname “elk rifle,” highlighting its capability for rapid-fire shooting.
The report indicates that he possessed a Winchester 1300 shotgun, 12 gauge, along with a semi-automatic small-caliber rifle known as a Ruger 10/22, 22 gauge, and a Mossberg 590 A1 model shotgun. He also possessed an additional barrel for the Winchester rifle, enabling him to fire more powerful bullets in place of the smaller lead shot.
