According to Colombian President Gustavo Petro, the country’s Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aeronautics was in charge of confirming Yeison Jiménez’s identity, as well as that of the other five people on board the small plane who died in the accident.
“Unfortunately, six people have died in a plane crash near Paipa that appears to have caught fire while in flight,” the president said on his social media accounts after the news came.

Who was the late Colombian singer Yeison Jiménez?
Jiménez, 34, was born in Manzanares, Caldas, in the country’s centre. He was one of the most prominent musicians in Colombian regional music over the previous decade, playing a vital role in expanding the popular genre outside traditional circuits.
Songs like ‘Aventurero’, ‘Vete’, and ‘Mi venganza’ helped him become one of Colombia’s most popular artists.
Billboard magazine named him a Latin breakthrough artist in 2021, and he has recently been able to fill huge venues around the nation, including the Movistar Arena in Bogotá, which is a milestone for a genre often associated with smaller places.
Jiménez’s creative itinerary included performances in Málaga, Santander, and Marinilla, Antioquia, near Medellín, on Friday and Saturday nights.
Following Yeison Jiménez’s death, followers recalled a recent interview he did for the podcast Los hombres sí lloran (Men Do Cry).
During the chat, the artist said that he had a premonition about an aircraft crash: “I began thinking about a really delicate matter, which was that we were going to have an accident. “I saw it three times,” he said.
The first two times he had the dream while on a tour of Spain, the incident was caused by a technical failure when a part of the plane came loose and was not properly repaired: “I wake up because the captain was desperate, telling me that we were going to have an accident.”
In the third dream, Yeison described being inside the aeroplane and seeing its crash: “I start to see how I am leaving Medellín,” he added.
