Israel Detains Turkish Activist Abdulsamed Turan from Global Sumud Flotilla

It was discovered that Turkish activist Abdulsamed Turan, who was wrongfully held by the Israeli navy after attacking the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was en route to Gaza to provide humanitarian goods, rejoined the flotilla after taking unpaid vacation.

Furkan Turan, the brother of Turkish activist Abdulsamed Turan, who lives in Kayseri and is on the “Seulle” ship that joined the flotilla from Italy, told Turkish media that his brother is married and lives in Rize, and that he has been providing psychological counselling at the Guidance Research Centre, which is affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, for 14 years.

Turan added that his brother never kept silent in the face of Israel’s violence and barbaric treatment of Gazans, and that he always spoke out for the downtrodden. He added that his brother had just visited the Rafah Border Gate in Egypt and was exposed to violence by certain people.

Turan added that despite the brutality his brother suffered, he did not give up and did his best to bring the misery of the people of Gaza to the attention of the entire world, stating, “My brother is on unpaid leave and supporting the fight in the Global Sumud flotilla.”

Turan emphasised that the Global Sumud Flotilla is a symbolic movement aiming at breaching the Israeli siege and establishing a humanitarian corridor, stating that his brother has been at sea for 31 days and that they communicate with him daily.

Uran explained that his brother was detained illegally after Israeli soldiers attacked the “Seulle” ship in the fleet in the morning, which is why they couldn’t get any news from him.

Turan stated that there were baby food, toys, and food supplies aboard the ship his brother was on.

Turan, who reported that they learned that Israeli soldiers had thrown into the sea the communication devices such as mobile phones and tablets of illegally detained activists, concluded his remarks as follows:

“My brother was detained by Israeli soldiers and is currently being abducted to Israel. Of course, we are inevitably worried, but we are submitting according to our faith. We are taking the necessary steps. We believe that our Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our country are taking the necessary steps. We continue to actively support those heroic individuals detained for their support of the Global Sumud Flotilla on social media. Of course, we are worried about my brother, but our concern is not that we will be harmed or anything else. We are actually still worried about the people in Gaza right now. Otherwise, if something happens to my brother, it will be God’s will, because every life is subject to death. If his death has not come, we will not have any problems. The Sumud Flotilla has had a tremendous global influence, and I feel its mission has been accomplished. Today, we travelled with fifty ships. Tomorrow, we’ll set sail with 500 others. We will not stop; we will persevere. We are worried for the people of Gaza, particularly the children, mothers, and elderly. Today, they are taking my brother. Tomorrow, we will build 500 ships. I’ll join my brother and go. I will be there to support them. They will abduct me, my sister will join, and my sister will go. We are not concerned or hesitant about these scenarios. As long as Gaza gains independence and the living circumstances it deserves.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye had stated, “The situation of our citizens on the boats that were attacked by Israeli forces is being closely monitored. Our Embassy has taken the necessary steps.”
