Débora Estrella, a Mexican television personality, died in an aircraft crash in Nuevo León. Family, friends, and team members regretted the occurrences, emphasising the presenter and journalist’s professional standing.
The loss of Débora Estrella, the well-known host of Telediario Matutino, has shocked the journalism world and the Grupo Multimedios community.
On Saturday, a tiny plane crashed near García, Nuevo León, killing a 43-year-old journalist and pilot Bryan Leonardo Ballesteros Argueta.
The accident occurred around 6:50 p.m. in the area known as Laderas/Riberas Interpuerto, within the Ciudad Mitras Industrial Park.
According to initial reports from Nuevo León Civil Protection, the aircraft, registered as XB-BGH, suddenly crashed near the Pesquería River . The rapid response of Civil Protection Unit 04 and other rescue teams failed to prevent the death toll of two people.
Débora Estrella’s identity was confirmed moments after the accident by both the State Investigation Agency and the mayor of García, Manuel Guerra Cavazos , who reported that the journalist was among the dead. Grupo Milenio and Grupo Multimedios also confirmed the death of their driver, emphasizing the impact of the loss on the company and her colleagues.
Débora Estrella’s professional career spanned a variety of news programmes. Since 2018, she has hosted the morning newscast in Monterrey, in addition to participating in newscasts on Milenio Televisión and hosting the Mexico City newscast on Channel 6 on weekends.
Born on August 7, 1982, in Monterrey, she began her career at Frecuencia Tec, the radio programme of ITESM , where she earned her law degree. Her professional experience also included positions at companies such as PepsiCo, Grupo Lomex, and Sigma.
On a personal level, Débora Estrella described herself as a “Horse Girl”, according to her own words, quoted by a Telediario publication.
“At MULTIMEDIOS, we are dismayed and deeply mourn the loss of our colleague. […] She defined herself as a ‘Horse Girl’ given her love of horses, an experience she claimed changed her life. Rest in peace,” the outlet wrote in its statement.
Previously, the journalist shared a photo of the small plane she was travelling in on her Instagram story , confirming that she was at the Norte International Airport , located between the municipalities of Apodaca and Escobedo. Although she did not specify the reason for her flight, the published image matches the crashed aircraft.
Expressions of condolence were quick to arrive from the press. Journalist César García, a colleague at the same television station, expressed his grief over the events on social media.
“Today my heart is broken… Débora Estrella is now in heaven. You don’t know how sad it feels to know that I won’t see you every weekend and you won’t brighten my day with your smile and joy. I will always carry you in my heart, mind, and soul. “I will always remember you with all my heart,” she wrote alongside a photo of herself and Estrella. For his part, Carlos Zúñiga also expressed his grief: “I am deeply saddened to have to say goodbye like this to my friend and colleague Débora Estrella. A professional in every sense of the word, but an even better person, daughter, and sister. Her passing is deeply saddening. I embrace her family, friends, and colleagues at Multimedios. May she rest in peace.”
Authorities are conducting an inquiry to discover the reason for the jet accident, while the journalistic and business communities lament the death of a significant figure in both the media and the corporate sector.
