Prince William and Princess Kate are moving to Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park. Read about their new eight-bedroom home, their hope for a “fresh start”, and why this move is seen as a long-term plan for the family.
In a significant change for the Royal Family, Kensington Palace has confirmed that the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate, will be moving their family to a new residence in Windsor Great Park.
The move, scheduled for “later this year”, will see the family of five relocate from their current home at Adelaide Cottage to the more spacious Forest Lodge. This decision, according to sources, represents more than just an upgrade in living space; it is a profound move for a “fresh start” after a difficult few years for the family.
From Adelaide Cottage to a ‘Forever Home’
Since moving to Windsor in 2022 to be closer to Queen Elizabeth II, the Wales family has resided at the four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage. While it provided a quiet base for their children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—who attend the nearby Lambrook School, the cottage had become too small for their growing needs.
The family’s new residence, Forest Lodge, is an eight-bedroom, Grade II-listed Georgian property nestled in a secluded corner of the 4,800-acre park.
Sources close to the couple have described Forest Lodge as their “forever home”, a move for the long term that will likely remain their primary residence even when Prince William succeeds to the throne. The property, believed to be around 328 years old, retains stunning original features, including Venetian windows, marble fireplaces, and ornate plasterwork.
A Fresh Start After a Tumultuous Period

The move to Forest Lodge comes at a poignant time for the Wales family. The past three years at Adelaide Cottage have been marked by a series of challenging events, including the death of Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles’s cancer diagnosis, and Princess Kate’s own cancer treatment.
According to reports from The Sun, the family is hoping the move will allow them to “leave some of the more unhappy memories behind” and start a new, more positive chapter.
The couple is reportedly funding all renovations themselves, ensuring no cost is passed on to the British taxpayer. Planning applications for minor internal and external work, including new windows and doors, were approved earlier this month, with the family hoping to be settled in by Christmas.
They also intend to continue their practice of not having any live-in staff, a tradition that reflects their desire for a more private and family-orientated life.
While the family will maintain their other residences, including Anmer Hall in Norfolk and Apartment 1A in Kensington Palace, Forest Lodge is set to become the heart of their lives. It symbolizes a new beginning, a long-term commitment to a peaceful, private life in Windsor, and a space where the next generation of royals can grow and flourish.
