How and where is Wolfgang Grupp?

The family of entrepreneur Wolfgang Grupp has been silent. It is unclear how the 83-year-old is faring after news of his hospitalisation became public. On social media, individuals are enquiring about his status in the comments section of a new video.

Trigema, a clothing maker, released an internet video purporting to depict former CEO Wolfgang Grupp before his hospitalisation. The video was shared on Instagram, YouTube, and other channels.

Here’s a look back at the open day on July 5th. Two days later, it was stated that Grupp Sr. was in the hospital. The 83-year-old may be seen in various photos sporting a yellow jacket and a blue tie. For example, he was videotaped sitting at his desk or taking photographs with guests. The video has music and offers a “look behind the scenes.”

The comments under the video also offer well-wishes. On YouTube, one user writes that she hopes “he’ll be well soon after the recent headlines and we’ll hear from him again.” Another follower comments, “We miss you, Wolfgang!” Some users also wonder how the entrepreneur is doing. “I hope there’s some clarity soon about what’s happening with your (former) boss,” one follower comments.

The company commented on Grupp senior’s health only once, shortly after his hospitalisation became known. They said he was doing well for his age. A spokeswoman has not provided any further details since then, stating that they would communicate again in due course. Independently of the company, the police confirmed an operation in Burladingen—where Grupp lives—a week ago.

According to the report, an injured person was taken from a private residence to the hospital by rescue helicopter. The police declined to provide any further details. Officers were on scene and found no third-party involvement or criminal activity. Therefore, there is no reason for an investigation.

Textile entrepreneur Wolfgang Grupp was born in 1942 in Burladingen. The town is located in the Swabian Alb (Zollernalbkreis) and has a population of just over 12,000. In 1969, Grupp took over the company founded by his grandfather.

Trigema is a manufacturer of underwear, leisurewear, and sportswear and advertises its products as 100 percent “Made in Germany.” In 2023, production revenue was €129.3 million, and the number of employees was just over 1,140.

At the beginning of 2024, Grupp stepped down from his position as CEO and handed over management to his son Wolfgang Grupp Jr. and his daughter Bonita. Grupp Sr. is considered one of Germany’s most distinguished and flamboyant businessmen. The former sole owner of Trigema became known, among other things, through television commercials featuring a chimpanzee.
