Nicknamed “Funny Chinese” at the beginning of his career, the comedian, seen in Guillaume Canet’s latest Asterix film, was found dead this Thursday morning in the 17th arrondissement of Paris.
Bun Hay Mean, a 43-year-old comedian, was discovered dead on Thursday morning in Paris’s 17th arrondissement after falling from eight stories. BSPP firemen and police personnel have arrived on the spot.
“It is with infinite sadness that we must announce the tragic passing of our friend, our immense artist, Bun Hay Mean,” his producer, Philippe Delmas, said in a statement.
“According to the information we have, it was just before he left, and while trying to retrieve his phone, which had fallen into the gutter of his balcony, that Bun slipped and fell several stories,” the officer stated.
The Paris prosecutor’s office, for its part, said it has launched an investigation into the death’s causes.
At the foot of this large building this Thursday morning, a few passersby cast questioning glances, wondering what could have happened behind the screen installed on the sidewalk. Police officers were on site securing the entrance, with two barriers preventing access to the sidewalk.
Comedy fans have known Bun Hay Mean for over ten years, but the general public discovered him in 2023 at the cinema in “Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom”, in which he played the villain and starred alongside Vincent Cassel, Manu Payet, etc.
Nicknamed “Funny Chinese” at the beginning of his career, he was spotted in the mid-2010s by Alais Degois, alias Papy, Jamel’s first director. With his rapid-fire delivery, his acerbic black humour, and his ability to improvise in all circumstances, he is starting to hit the mark.
