Vietnamese mother Thi Ty Na, aged 44, stands accused of murdering her son in a bid to secure insurance benefits, allegedly concealing the crime for a period of two years.

On the evening of April 5, the Investigation Police Agency of Vietnam’s Quang Nam Province Police took the significant step of prosecuting and temporarily detaining To Thi Ty Na on charges of murder.

The investigation agency revealed that Na’s conduct came to light when Major General Nguyen Huu Hop, the Director of Quang Nam Provincial Police, instructed the Provincial Police Investigation Agency to examine and reassess previously suspended cases and incidents.

The authorities have decided to reopen the murder case that took place on January 2, 2023. At approximately 10:05 p.m. on January 2, 2023, a tragic incident occurred at the residence of Mrs. Na in Ward 3, Ha Lam town, Thang Binh district, where her biological son, Nguyen Van Hoang, born in 2017, was found deceased in the toilet.

The latest findings from the investigation reveal that the police have concluded Mrs. Na was responsible for Hoang’s death, motivated by a desire to exploit insurance benefits. Two days prior, the individual in question was requested to carry out an investigative experiment.

At present, the authorities have yet to disclose the specifics of the crime method or the sum of money that has been embezzled.
