Kara Alexander, a British mother, was convicted for 21 years for drowning her boys in a bath in London.

A lady was sentenced to life in jail after drowning her two young kids in what a judge described as “the stuff of nightmares” in the bathtub.

Kara Alexander, 47, of Dagenham, was convicted of murdering Elijah Thomas, two, and Marley Thomas, five, at their Cornwallis Road home in 2022.

Mr Justice Bennathan sentenced her to at least 21 years and 252 days in prison, saying Alexander had been in a psychotic condition after using cannabis and had “unspeakably” kept them underwater for “up to a minute or two”.

Met Police investigator Paul Waller told the boys’ family that “no amount of time will erase the pain of such a loss, but I hope this sentence serves to bring some semblance of justice”.Post-mortem tests determined that the boys drowned in east London on the evening of December 15, 2022.

The court sentenced Alexander, saying, “You had been smoking skunk [strong cannabis]. You had been doing this every night for weeks, if not longer.”At some point, both boys were dressed for bed, with Elijah also wearing a diaper. You deliberately drowned both of them.

The court stated there was every indication Alexander was a “caring and affectionate” mother to both children before the events of December 15.He stated that their father claimed Alexander “never shouted or raised her voice at the boys” and “never showed violence to the boys”.

The jury had previously heard how the children’s father was scheduled to care after the boys over the weekend and got anxious when Alexander did not call him.

According to the court, when he arrived at their house, she informed him that the children were asleep upstairs.But when he went upstairs, he discovered the boys’ bodies together on the lower bunk of their shared bunk bed, clad in pyjamas and having perished some hours earlier.
