The deceased was an assistant public prosecutor in the port city Chattogram.
The event happened on Tuesday afternoon.
The dead was Saiful Islam, popularly known as Alif, a 35-year-old assistant public prosecutor. Saiful, the son of Jamal Uddin, was born in Chunati, Lohagara.
Dr. Nibedita Ghosh, duty doctor at Chittagong Medical College Hospital’s emergency department, verified the development to the Dhaka Tribune. “The injured are undergoing treatment at the hospital.”
The wounded include Sribas Das, Sharku Das, Choton, Sujit Ghosh, Utpal, and Enamul Haque.
During the hearings, Chinmoy Krishna’s defence team applied for bail.
However, following a hearing, the judge denied the plea and ordered his immediate transportation to jail.
Following his attorneys’ plea, the court ordered the prison officials to give him with separate amenities and enable him to practice his religion.
Following the court ruling, law enforcement authorities, including the police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and the army, were unable to transport the prison van from the courthouse to the jail.
Around 2:45pm, law officers deployed sound grenades, tear gas shells, and baton charges to disperse the protestors.
This resulted in a series of chases and counter-chases. Later, when Chinmoy Krishna’s prison van was being driven to jail, fresh clashes erupted between his supporters, police, and attorneys.
Mohammad Hasan, a lawyer who observed the events, claimed that during the fights, protestors assaulted Alif with sharp weapons. He was later transported to a hospital.
Lawyers protested the murder in the courthouse at 6 p.m. and asked for a day off work on Wednesday.
