Interpol lodged a red file against Garcia Luna’s wife and brothers

The Federation’s Public Ministry confirmed that the investigations in Mexico have nothing to do with the criminal proceedings in the United States.

The Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) said that it is immediately processing the execution of arrest warrants issued by Interpol against the wife and siblings of Genaro Garcia Luna, former Secretary of Public Security during Felipe Calderón’s six-year administration.

“Three arrest warrants have been issued by federal judges against Genaro “G,” his wife, and several brothers for crimes committed in Mexico that have no connection with the criminal proceedings being pursued in the United States,” the MPF stated in a statement.

It went on to say that these investigations “are independent of the asset claim processes that the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) is following in Miami, Florida, to recover assets resulting from crimes committed by said person and their relatives.”

According to the FGR, the first arrest warrant is for Felipe Calderón’s involvement in the “Fast and Furious” case, in which weapons were illegally introduced into the country, resulting in a large number of deaths and irreparable damage to justice.

The institution in charge of Alejandro Gertz Manero also made note of the fact that Garca Luna’s second arrest warrant concerns “immense patrimonial damage, which reached more than $64.900 million pesos, in the case of the construction and operation of various federal prisons, privatized through the efforts of said individual and his accomplices; and that, thanks to the actions of the Government of the Republic, most of said damage has been reversed.”

The third arrest order, meantime, makes reference to the former Mexican official’s criminal involvement in dishonest and abusive equipment deals for the nation’s federal public prisons, “whose damage is estimated at $5,112 million pesos, in 10 illegal contracts.”

According to the statement, “the competent judge also issued arrest warrants against the wife and a number of brothers of Genaro “G,” as well as more than 50 other individuals involved in embezzlement and operations with resources of illegal origin” in this case.

These persons are already “linked to the process,” the Federal Public Ministry noted, adding that “red files have been issued for those who fled the country at the time.” Additionally, a number of properties have been seized, barring the relevant parties’ bank accounts.

The FGR stated that “the arrest warrants against Genaro “G” and his eluded accomplices are being urgently processed before the relevant authorities to obtain, as necessary, the extradition that proceeds.”
