Kristina and Rodrigo welcomed a baby Hades in St-Malo. This first name is opposed by Justice. Its allusion to Greek mythology would be detrimental to the child’s interests.

Nobody notices the link. Nobody was surprised in the maternity ward. People, on the other hand, like it.–Hades’ mom.

Not the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Saint-Malo which, warned by the civil registrar of the town hall, now believes that this choice of first name is “contrary to the interests of the child as it incontestably relates to the deity of the dead and from hell “.

Kristina and Rodrigo were astounded to find, three weeks after their son’s birth, that the deputy public prosecutor of Saint-Malo had ordered the erasure of his initial name from his birth certificate. 

We are perplexed by this decision. We do not feel we have picked a derogatory first name for him. We didn’t name him Lucifer or Satan since we’re not idiots. We merely wanted a unique first name that sounded excellent. I loved ‘Hadès’ right away when Rodrigo offered it to me.–Hades’ dad.

Kristina and Rodrigo, who have decided to name their baby Hades, have contacted other parents who have picked the same first name for their kid. “It’s never been an issue elsewhere, and children called Hades aren’t mocked.”

They appeared before a family affairs judge of the Saint-Malo judicial court on Friday, March 3, 2023, with their lawyer Pierre Stichelbaut.

“It’s a nice-sounding name with no offensive overtones. The ball is now in the court of justice, which will decide on April 4 whether or not Little Hades may continue to be called such.
