We learnt on Saturday through his French press officer that the American comedian and clown Jango Edwards passed away on Friday in Barcelona at the age of 73 due to cancer.
Stanley Ted Edwards, who was born in Detroit in 1950, first encountered the clown in the 1970s. He started touring Europe and achieved success in France, where he appeared for nine months from 1987 to 1988 at Le Splendid.
He is particularly well-known for his bizarre performances with Antoine de Caunes in the Canal+ cult show Nulle partailleurs.
He founded the "new clown" movement, and in 2009 he founded an institute in Barcelona, where he had been residing with his wife, Cristi Garbo, for a few years.
Jaume Collboni, the mayor of the Catalan city, paid homage to him on Twitter on Saturday under the handle "X," praising "the master of clowns and this Barcelonan at heart." "I am sure he will continue to illuminate the lives of the souls who accompany him," he continued. The Clown's Bible was a book that Jango Edwards had just finished writing, according to Claire Gontaud, his publicist.
