German businesses send the second-highest amount of taxes to Moscow.
After American firms, German companies are the biggest foreign taxpayers in Russia. This information was provided by the Kiev School of Economics and was produced for the non-governmental group B4Ukraine, according to the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" (FAZ).
262 (69%) of the original 371 German businesses are still operating there. Last year, they paid $402 million in income taxes. Consequently, they have a 23.2 billion dollar revenue. This equates to two thirds of the earnings taxes that EU businesses would have forwarded to the Russian finance minister in 2022, according the study.
Despite the war of aggression, several German firms continued to grow. Sanctions have no impact on these legitimate transactions. Only American businesses are subject to increased earnings taxes in Russia. Overall, 4/5 of the initial 1,387 western businesses that were present in the nation before Russia invaded Ukraine would continue to operate there.
The examination found that western businesses sent the Russian government $3.5 billion in earnings taxes last year. The authors of the paper claim that by doing this, they would "help finance the Kremlin's war effort."
Officials at the company said that they were adhering to all restrictions. Many businesses were retreating, according to the Eastern Committee of German Business, which was quoted in the newspaper. Some people are "bound by contract and cannot leave the market overnight," according to Managing Director Michael Harms.
