On Friday, Karan Johar's Rocky and Rani: The Love Story was launched in Indian theaters.

'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani' marks producer-director Karan Johar's comeback to directing after a seven-year absence. He directed for OTT in the meantime, but his most recent theatrical movie was Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Hai in 2016, which starred Ranbir Kapoor. He is now back with Ranveer Singh.

In the love narrative of Raaki and Rani, director Karan, who has previously produced romantic comedies like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil among others, combines both genres.

Rocky and Rani's romance is the subject of the movie, but their romance cannot progress without the support of their families. Rocky Randhawa (Ranveer Singh), a Delhi resident whose lifelong goal is to bulk up physically, is introduced in the first chapter of the narrative.

Rani Chatterjee (Alia Bhatt) is ambitious in contrast. a news channel's anchor. Due to their grandparents, the two people meet. While they were once in love, Rocky's grandpa Kanwal (Dharmendra) and Rani's grandmother Jamini (Shabana Azmi) wed in separate locations.

While Rocky and Rani are now working to reunite them, they develop feelings for one another. Rocky and Rani are aware of the differences in the cultural and lifestyle practices of their respective families. How will he prepare the family for this connection in such a circumstance?

During this time, it is suggested that they spend three months together with each other's families so that they can determine whether they will be able to live together forever. Both try to win over the families of the other. Will the two be able to win over the families of the other? The narrative develops on this.

The unique quality of Karan Johar's movies is that they have larger-than-life frames, vibrant colors, elaborate sets, and songs set in exotic locales. He has kept all of these elements in this movie as well. Karan is skilled at fussing humor and emotion. Similar to his other movies, this one has a strong emphasis on family values.

But getting there takes a while in the movie. It's impressive how Karan managed to blend funny and touching parts between two families. Rocky Jahan injects humor among the Rani members' serious personalities. Rani, however, adds some poignant passages by remaining with Rocky's family.

Seeing Dharmendra on the big screen is a soothing experience. He shares her emotional moments with her. However, a kissing scene between Dharmendra and Shabana doesn't appear to be necessary. It's awkward when Rocky introduces his grandfather to his first love when Rocky is Rocky's grandma. Why Rocky's grandma Dhanalakshmi did not forbid her husband from seeing his ex-girlfriend also appears odd.

The movie moves quite slowly in the beginning. The two families' introductory scenes focus on Rocky and Rani's developing romance as well as their reunion. Mast Baharon Ka Main Aashiq, Meri Pyaari Bindu, Hawa Hawa Saath Saath, Abhi na jao chhod kar, and Yeh Shaam Mastani are just a few of the older songs that are played in the first segment as opposed to the newer songs. At first, these songs appear hilarious, but they quickly get monotonous.

In the trailer, around 80% of the scenes are seen before to the intermission. The songs Jhumka and Tum Mile that were used to promote the movie were also included in the first act, which gives the impression that the movie is dekhi-dekhi before the intermission.

The representation of several characters has deviated in order to maintain the story's logic. From such a large and prosperous family come Rocky and his sister Gayatri. These thoughts continue as to why he is uneducated while living in Delhi. There are some entertaining moments in the movie, such as Ranveer Singh and Tota Roy Chowdhury's dance to the song Dola Re Dola from "Devdas," which is well received.
