The iconic Summerjam begins on Friday at Cologne's Fühlinger See. Until Sunday, more than 40 live bands will play at Germany's oldest reggae festival.

Summerjam Festival 2023 in Germany

The 36th Summerjam's motto is "The Spirit of Peace." The three days spent in Fühlinger See should be relaxing. This is where Germany's crème de la crème of reggae, dancehall, afrobeat, pop, and reggae collide. On Friday, Alborosie will showcase his new album, Jamaican vocalist Protoje, and Jan Delay with his Disko No.1.

On the two stages - the Red Stage and the Green Stage - more than 40 bands and vocalists perform. Grammy winners SOJA and Kabaka Pyramid are among them.

However, a German interpreter is the crowd's favorite and the top performer on Saturday. Berlin's Peter Fox. Next to him, Trettmann, a German hip-hop and dancehall musician, announces a heated concert on the red stage.

Up to 30,000 people are anticipated to attend. When a Jamaican group led by Ky-Mani Marley and luminaries Third World and Barrington Levy come on the green stage at the same time, you'll be spoiled for choice.

Positive female vocalists include Tanya Stephens, Treesha, Natali Rize, Nina Chuba, and Naomi Cowan. Summerjam wishes to provide them with a unique platform. Popcaan, one of the top dancehall artists, will close the event on Sunday.

There is a lot of music not just at the live shows, but also in the Dancehall Area afterward. There will be DJs and sound systems such as Pow Pow Movement from Cologne, Warriorsound from Wuppertal, and Freak de L'Afrique from Berlin. There is also the Vibez Village, which features a variety of music and is presented by the Cologne reggae magazine riddim.
