The largest rock band in the world was brought to its feet on Sunday as 1,112 musicians joined forces to play "Metallica - Enter Sandman" at Vienna's Donauinselfest on the bank austria / radio 88.6 rock stage.
The previous world record of 1,004 musicians has now been greatly surpassed as radio 88.6 formed the largest rock band in Austria with the "88.6 RockTogether" in the last two years.
The Vienna Danube Island Festival set a world record
"Performing a tremendous performance like Enter Sandman in front of so many people is a wonderful sensation. You should also keep in mind that the musicians traveled to the Danube Island with their gear, including drums and amplifiers. The Timpel, moderator of the morning program on 88.6 and project manager of the 88.6 rock together, declares, "That makes you feel the utmost gratitude and connection to our 88.6 community and proves once more: Our listeners are simply the best!" He is also in charge of the related video, which will be posted on YouTube on Friday, June 30, 2023.
"Of course, we are immensely proud that we were able to celebrate a world record at our festival during our 40th Danube Island Festival—and one that embodies the spirit and the fundamental idea of the Danube Island Festival: A world record where everyone could participate, and evidently they did! The Danube Island Festival is put on by the proevent team für wien gmbh, which is led by Mathias Friedrich. He thanks the listeners and the whole radio 88.6 team for their support.
This achievement has particularly thrilled Günther Zögernitz, Managing Director of Radiocom (88.6's marketer), who said: "Of course we would like to thank the many listeners who made this world record possible, but also our partners who helped us to realize this mega project." Above all, of course, the proevent and the entire team of the Donauinselfest - you can see that anything is truly achievable if you have competent and dependable partners by your side!"
"This new milestone is just another indication of the constantly successful route that we as a brand have consistently pursued for many years: specifically, concentrating on music and, more importantly, on our community. Being a part of such a team and being able to run such a radio station, of course, makes me feel really proud," says Ralph Meier-Tanos, managing director of radio 88.6.
