The Evil Dead franchise returns with a new installment, Evil Dead Rise, which debuted today on HBO Max. The story revolves on two sisters who acquire an isolated home in the woods and discover that it is haunted by the evil spirits of the Necronomicon.

Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground) directs Evil Dead Rise, which stars Alyssa Sutherland (The Mist) and Lily Sullivan (Mental). Critics have given the film favorable reviews, with many applauding its shocks and Cronin's directing.


The launch of Evil Dead Rise coincides with a horror-filled weekend on HBO Max. Possession, a new film starring Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of Grace) and Paul Mescal (Normal People), will also be available on the streaming site. Possession is a psychological horror film about a pregnant woman who becomes possessed by a demon.
