According to the US Geological Survey, a magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck Colombia early Wednesday morning. The earthquake's epicenter occurred in Caqueza, Cundinamarca, about 50 miles south of Bogota. The tremor was felt in a number of Colombian cities, including Bogota, Medellin, and Cali.

There have been no reports of damage or injuries as of yet. The tremor did, however, generate considerable fear in Bogota, with people rushing out of buildings and onto the streets.
Colombia lies in a seismically active area and is prone to earthquakes. A magnitude 6.1 earthquake rocked the nation in 1999, killing over 1,000 people and injured thousands more.
Colombia's government has a strategy in place to respond to earthquakes and other natural calamities. The proposal includes an early warning siren system as well as a network of emergency responders.
The administration is advising citizens to remain calm and to obey emergency personnel's instructions.
