He was elected as the first Democrat to the Lazio regional council once more. On May 12, 2010, he was appointed in a minority share as vice president of the Lazio regional council. He won a seat in the Senate of the Republic in the Lazio district by finishing third on the regional list with roughly 7,200 votes. As a result, he was elected senator for the first time in the XVII Legislature.
On 4 December 2013, Astorre was elected by secret vote to the Cassa depositi e prestiti supervisory panel, and after being elected to the Democratic Party's National Assembly in the party primaries conducted on 8 December 2013, he was assigned to the Democratic Party's National Directorate.
He was re-nominated in the same constituency for the center-left alliance in the political quota on March 4, 2018, and re-elected at Palazzo Madama. Following the elections, he was appointed to the VIII Public Works Commission, of which he was also secretary. He was also elected regional secretary of the Democratic Party for Lazio on December 1, 2018.
Ultimately, on September 25, 2022, he was re-elected as a Senate candidate for early policies as leader of the list in the Lazio 02 plurinominal district.
