"We welcome Syria's recent restart of contacts with a few nations," said Hossein Amir-Abdollahian during a press conference with his Syrian colleague Faisal al-Meqdad.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian talked with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on the possibilities of "Iran participating in talks aimed at forging a dialogue between Damascus and Ankara," the Syrian presidency said.

The chief of Iranian diplomacy "expressed pleasure with the reconciliation established between Syria and Arab nations," according to the same source. The Iranian minister traveled to Syria on March 9th, first to the earthquake-ravaged province of Latakia, and then to Damascus.

On February 6, an earthquake struck numerous parts of Syria and neighboring Turkey, killing over 50,000 people in both countries.
