The actor Robert Gallinowski has died, according to his "dpa" agency. The 53-year-old was most recognized for his work on television. He was a member of the ensemble at Hamburg's Deutsches Schauspielhaus in the 1990s.

Robert Gallinowski regularly appears in front of the camera as a strong guy or villain. For example, in the film "Naked among the Wolves," he played SS-Hauptsturmfuhrer Robert Kluttig. He is most known to a larger public for his roles in television shows such as "Polizeiruf 110," "Wilsberg," and "Der Alte." In a 2012 Hannover episode of "Tatort," he plays the chief of a criminal rocker band that Charlotte Lindholm (Maria Furtwängler) is investigating.
Gallinowski began his acting career at the Ernst Busch School of Theatre Arts in Berlin, where he studied alongside actors such as Angela Winkler. In 1996, he moved on from the Bonn Theater to the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. He played, among other things, Edgar in Shakespeare's "King Lier".
He appeared in "Maß für Maß" and "A Clockwork Orange" under the supervision of today's creative director Karin Beier. Following three years in the Hanseatic city, he joined the ensemble at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin in 1999, where he collaborated alongside Dimiter Gotscheff, Thomas Langhoff, and Peter Zadek, among others.
Gallinowski was a multi-talent as well as an actress. He painted, wrote radio dramas, and wrote poetry. "The acting profession as such would not enough for me," he declared in a 2012 interview with rbb. Gallinowski also released a poetry collection called "Between Heart and Beat" during the time.
He also gave readings of his poems. Many people see the tough guys and the soft poetry as mutually exclusive: "The appeal of the job is that you change roles," says Gallinowski.
Until 2016, Robert Gallinowski was married to Dagmar Manzel, an actress and radio play speaker. Upon his death, a black and white photograph of the actor was posted on his agency's website. "Ah, Robert (1969-2023), you will be missed," it said. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
