In eastern Turkey, the East Anatolian Fault Line is a strike-slip fault line.
Eastern Anatolia Fault Line map |
The tectonic border is formed by the transformation type between the Anatolian Plate and the northward advancing Arabian Plate. The left lateral movement along the fault reflects the difference in the relative motions of the two plates. The East and North Anatolian faults accommodate the westward migration of the Anatolian Plate, which has been squeezed as a result of the continuous collision with the Eurasian Plate.
The East Anatolian Fault begins near the northern end of the Dead Sea Fissure and finishes in the northeast at the Karlova Triple Junction, where it connects with the North Anatolian Fault.
WHERE DOES THE EASTERN ANATOLIA FAULT LINE PASS THROUGH?
The Eastern Anatolian Fault Line connects the North Anatolian Fault Line from Erzincan after passing through Hatay, Osmaniye, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş, Adyaman, Elaz, Bingöl, and Muş.
