According to Reuters, an earthquake with a magnitude of roughly 7.2 happened in Tajikistan about 8:37 a.m. (0037 GMT) on Thursday at a depth of 10 kilometers, as reported by Chinese official broadcaster CCTV.
The epicenter is roughly 82 kilometers from the nearest Chinese border and was felt powerfully in Kashgar and Artux in western Xinjiang, according to CCTV.
According to CCTV, the average altitude within a 5 km radius of the epicenter is roughly 4,655 meters (15,300 ft).
