Paco Rabanne died at the age of 88 in Portsall, France. The Spanish conglomerate Puig, which owns Paco Rabanne's design house and perfume business, announced his death.

The bizarre designs of the Spanish fashion designer were his trademark. "Who else could make trendy Parisians crave plastic and metal clothing? Who else than Paco Rabanne could create a scent called Calandre - which means "auto grill" - and turn it into an emblem of modern femininity? "Puig's Fashion and Beauty Department President, José Manuel Albesa, stated.

"That extreme, rebellious attitude distinguished him: there is only one Rabanne," he went on. "With his death, we are reminded of his immense effect on current fashion, a spirit that lives on in the house that carries his name."

Despite his reputation for metallic creations, the designer debuted his first plastic collection in 1966. The initial collection, headlined "12 Unwearable Dresses in Contemporary Materials," enraged the French fashion press and launched Rabanne and laid the foundation for his future as a designer. He also enjoyed experimenting with paper, buttons, and fur. Among his clients were celebrities such as Jane Fonda, Audrey Hepburn, and Mia Farrow.

Rabanne left the fashion industry in 1999 and is rarely seen in public. Puig, headquartered in Barcelona, resurrected Rabanne's moribund fashion company in 2011, first with Indian designer Manish Arora.

Julien Dossena, a former employee of Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga and a well-known personality in the Parisian fashion scene, has been at the helm of the design brand since 2013.

Paco Rabanne is most known to the general public today for his fragrances of the same name. In the mid-1990s, he was one of the first designers to debut a fragrance online; once again, he was noted for his forward-thinking. "XS Pour Elle" was accessible on the internet store months before it was released in physical stores. "Fame" is still one of the world's most famous works.
