At least ten people were killed and 19 injured in a shooting in Monterey Park, California, during the celebrations for the lunar new year. This was reported by the US police of Los Angeles County.

The massacre at the Star Dance Studio nightclub where a two-day festival was ending, the Monterey Park Lunar New Year Festival, organized by the local Asian community and considered one of the largest in the region. Thousands of people had gathered in the afternoon, then around 10pm local time (7am in Italy) as the party was drawing to a close, a man allegedly started shooting at the crowd. Seung Won Choi, owner of the Clam House seafood barbecue restaurant on Garvey Avenue, said three people rushed into his restaurant and told him to lock the door. "There was a man with a machine gun in the area," Choi told the Los Angeles Times.
A few hours earlier a US congresswoman had spoken to the Chinese community who live in the Californian town located east of Los Angeles and which out of 61,000 inhabitants has over 65% of citizens of Asian origin.
Very little official information leaked out while reporters await a press conference by the authorities.
Footage posted on social media showed deserted streets cordoned off and patrolled by police cars. Monterey Park is a city in Los Angeles County, approximately 7 miles (11 km) from downtown Los Angeles.
