"I am quitting, since such a privileged post includes responsibility and I realise that I no longer have the strength to execute it correctly. It's that simple," she explained. Her term will end on February 7, 2023. She indicated that elections will be held in October.

Jacinda Ardern resigned as Prime Minister of New Zealand and declared an election for October.

"For me it is time," he declared in a meeting with members of his Labor Party. "I no longer have energy for another four years."

“I am leaving, because with such a privileged role comes responsibility. The responsibility of knowing when you are the right person to lead and also when you are not . I know what this job requires. And I know I don't have enough in the tank anymore to do it justice. It's that simple,” she said.

"I'm not leaving because I think we can't win the next election, but because I think we can (win) and we will," she said.

He stated that his resignation will be effective no later than February 7, and that the Labor bench will select a new leader within three days.

He also stated that the next general election would be conducted on October 14, and that he will remain in Parliament until then.

"I am human, as are politicians. For as long as we can, we offer everything we have. Then it's time to go. "And it's time for me," she added.

“I have given my all to be prime minister, but it has also cost me a lot. I cannot and should not do the job unless I have a full tank plus a little in reserve for those unplanned and unexpected challenges that inevitably arise," said the New Zealand Prime Minister.

Ardern insisted that there is "no hidden scandal" underlying his decision. "I am a human being. We give our all for as long as we can, and then it's time. "And it's time for me," she added.

Given this choice, the Labor Party must pick a new leader and prime minister this Sunday, January 22. Meanwhile, the person elected must govern until the general elections on October 14, according to data compiled by The Telegraph newspaper.

The Fresh Zealand prime minister specifically stated that she is sure that Labor would be able to win elections without her, implying that "a new pair of shoulders" will be required for the difficulties of the next four years.

“I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished in the last five years despite the many challenges that come our way. We have turned the statistics on child poverty on its head and achieved the most significant increases in social support and public housing stock seen in many decades,” Ardern said.

“In addition to our ambitious agenda that has sought to address long-term issues like the housing crisis , child poverty, and climate change , we also had to respond to a major biosecurity raid, a domestic terrorist attack , a volcanic eruption, and a global pandemic , and the ensuing economic crisis. The decisions that have had to be made have been constant and weighty, ” she added.

Ardern, 42, became the country's youngest prime minister when she assumed office in August 2017, at the age of 37. She was elected after forming a coalition government with the Greens and New Zealand Nationalists First, bringing an end to a decade of Conservative administration.
