The Swedish military got the final Patriot anti-aircraft missile complex battery in the PAC-3+ variant.
The Swedish Armed Forces' Material Support Agency (FMV) has notified the receipt of a fourth battery.
The Patriot air defense system was given the Swedish army's national name LvS103 (Luftvarnssystem 103/Air defense system 103).
Four years after the contract was signed and a year after the first battery was delivered, the transfer took place at the location of the air defense regiment in Halmstad.
FMV ordered the Patriot system in the United States four years ago. "We acquired a whole new anti-aircraft system during this time period, which Sweden did not have previously," FMV personnel claimed.
The air defense system was meant to be delivered in 2023, according to the schedule, but the world's challenging condition required the delivery to be hastened.
A delegation of officials from the US Army and industrial businesses has been in Halmstad for the past year, educating Swedish people in the operation and maintenance of air defense systems.
Some of them will continue for another year to help with training and service.
In general, the transaction is nearly complete: all that remains is the delivery of spare equipment from the United States.
The package worth up to 3.2 billion dollars included:
*AN/MPQ-65 radar stations;
*12 M903 launchers ( battery – 3 launchers );
*100 anti-aircraft guided missiles MIM-104E (GEM-T);
*200 anti-aircraft guided missiles PAC-3 MSE (Missile Segment Enhancement);
*various equipment and services.
According to the tender results, Sweden opted to deliver four Patriot air defense/anti-missile system batteries, missiles, supporting equipment and spare parts, as well as maintenance and training services on August 2, 2018.
The US State Department authorized the probable shipment of four upgraded batteries of Patriot air defense systems in the PAC-3+ configuration to Sweden under the Foreign Military Sales program in February 2018.
Representatives from the governments of Sweden and the United States signed a document approving the offer to acquire the Patriot base kit in early August 2018.
Raytheon inked an initial deal for $692.9 million in December 2018 to provide Patriot air defense systems to the Swedish Armed Forces.
The requested equipment will be delivered to Sweden in December 2020. On November 18, 2022, the first battery of the Patriot PAC-3+ air defense system was activated at Halmstad.
